lower back pain (sprained, pulled muscle) right above the left hip?

2 weeks ago, i pulled my lower back muscle, i kept working out(weight trainig) without putting strees on lower back. i also did abdominal exercises, leg raises, sit ups. after 10 days, it almost went away but 2 days ago i was at the gym i thought its good now and i did this tricep exercise(standing overhead extention with rope), cuz the sudden movement , i think i hurt it again, back in pain now. i can still perform regular daily activities but it hurts when i bend over or raise my left leg, when i try to run. from level 1-10 ,pain is around 6. is there anybody know if it is normal and will heal on its own. i am using heating pads. need help please.

It sounds like it was starting to get better. I think it is likely that you only strained a muscle. It's a good idea to allow a strain to completely heal before working out again, and then you'll be less likely to re-injure it. If it is only a strain, it will get better with time, possibly like it "almost had" before you did the triceps extensions. I would suggest an antiinflammatory such as ibuprofen (as long as you don't consume alcohol - read the warnings), continue to use the heating pad if it helps, and try to avoid any strenuous physical activity until it has healed completely.

On the other hand, it is possible that there is something else going on. Herniated disks are pretty common. A doctor would have some tests to detect this, and an x-ray would confirm this or any other abnormality in your spine.

If your pain becomes too unbearable or lasts more than a couple weeks, you should probably see your physician. I say a couple weeks because I once had a back ache for three weeks before it went away on its own, and it was very excruciating. And by the way, your physician will be less expensive than an ER visit, and he can probably also do an x-ray for you right in the office. Hope you feel better soon.

please do me a favour and dont mess around with back injuries… ive ben there done that… i locked vertabrates in my spine together, n it was like 12 out of 1-10 pain scale it was SO SO painful, n i countinued to play soccer tears running down my face as i played, i was seeing a chiropractor twice a week, 7.5 months later there is still a hint of pain that is always there, n idk if it will ever go away, but u gotta rest up, seriously like yer back is not something to mess w. it seems like it is getting better, but STOP pushing it, yer only making it worse, n trust me that heating pad willl eventually have no effect, so u gotta let it heal, take a couple days off from the gym, pulled musccles take 6 WEEKS to heal, take it easy for a couple days n then slowly work your way back into it…..
