I have come to learn that with this disease, everything can hurt!! :+)
But yes, it is normal for shoulders and especially your neck to hurt. Since this disease usually effects the lower back first, you unconsciously compensate your movements to accommodate it. I find when I have the worse neck pain is after I have done to much for the day. But remember you have discs' all the way up to the head, so just to be safe you may want to ask for another MRI of your C Spine area.

Your cervical disc (neck) will cause pain to your head and shoulders if they have started to degenerate too. Actually, your head pain is related to the cervical discs (neck) and not head pain.

Yes, it is common to have this pain with your disc disease.

I hope that you are on something that will help prevent further degeneration … if not, talk to your physician about this. Also, this is a painful condition and I hope that your physician has you on a pain regimen so that you can carry on with your activities of daily living. Mild, gentle exercises may help, but don't do aggressive exercises … gentle stretching, yoga, swimming … may help too.

    Good luck. ;>)

It can be. Anytime you have an imbalance in the spine, your spine compensates as best it can. But as a result of trying to compensate, other vertebrae can subluxate, or go out of alignment. Ask your doctor if this is the case. I also personally recommend chiropractic for this reason. I know where you're coming from by the way. I've damaged C1-C6 and L3-S2. I also have compression at C5-C6 with spinal stenosis. I feel your pain. My pain, though, is controlled by narcotic pain medication. Good luck.

Pain is a paresthesia and issue protective warning of the body by bacterial inflammation or aseptic inflammation or chemical stimulation of acute traumatic mechanical stimulation. It suggests the tissue disease or injury. Bacterial inflammation can occur in the bone tissue, it can also occur in soft tissues; However, the incidence of aseptic inflammation is only limited in soft tissues, not in bone tissues.

As we all know, pain is associated with the nervous system ,but with which? It's actually due to the spinal soft tissue damage, When the muscles and fascia of the bone got aseptic inflammatory lesions, it's chemically stimulating the inner nerve endings, It would immediately transfer to the brain, and then feed back into the soft tissue lesion and then pain occurs.

So this not normal your pain with degenerative disc disease.you have soft tissure damage in neck.
