I am 35 yrs old and I injured my lower back while in Iraq with the military.?

That was two yrs ago, and I have not found out what the actual injury is. I had an MRI and x-ray when I first got back from Iraq in 2005. It is a constant pain that has caused me to almost lose a family over. I am taking MS Contin, Neurontin, and Tramadol for the pain, and some days I can’t even get out of bed.. Can someone tell me what this could be?
The military gave me a MRI, x-ray, 3 injections, and finally an honorable discharge with a diagnosis of chronic back pain. It feels like the lower part of my spine is seperating from my hips, and it is constant and very hard to explain how bad it hurts, but it does. Could this be a cancer? Or could it be something else?

Honey, I am sorry you are hurt. You need to take a stand make the doctors at the VA come up with a diagnosis and also a prognosis and a method of pain management and possible cure.

You are a Vet you are entitled to full medical benefits at the VA clinics. Contact the VA and get started with registering.

If you have no satisfaction contact your Senator or Congressperson.

Just an idea but I am 36 and I have Fibromyalgia and it is pretty much constant pain in your soft tissues of your back. This will not really show up in a X-Ray or MRI. I had many. They do have Doctors that specialize in this area and you may want to look on line and see if your symptoms coincide with the areas of the body (back) that are most effected by this. It can be caused by different factors but an injury can result in this. Follow the link as that is where I have found the most helpful and accurate information. It did take a while for my doctors to figure this out and I was starting to think that I was crazy because every single day I was in pain. Good Luck living with back pain is horrible and having the people that you love understand when the DR. can find nothing concrete is a real pain in the ass.

It really ticks me off that you can go to some place like Iraq and risk you life, then when you come home you get ignored like a red headed step child!!

Pester the VA daily for a diagnosis and treatment, preferably something other that the list of addictive drugs they are pumping you full of. Tell them you want to be detoxed from the drugs. You will have to do alot of research on your own because typically VA just wants to drug you and send you on your way.. its easier for them than actually having to think and provide care..

I really cannot give you any advice on what to do till you have a diagnosis.. other that chronic back pain …

After a proper diagnosis the options you might consider :
    Massage therapy
    Physical therapy,
    acupuncture
exercise.. Believe it or not you might need to do some core strengthening like pilates..

    Good luck!
