What is causing pain in my lower back and how can I fix it?

I’m 26. In good shape and go to the gym 4-5 times a week. However, I am not flexible at all. I can’t touch my toes, my posture is not great and I was diagnosed with scoliosis when I was 13. However, over time my posture has gotten a lot better with working out etc…

My main concern is this. When I lie on my back and extend my legs straight (locking the knees) and try to raise my legs to a 90 degree angle while keeping them straight, at about 45 degrees I get insane lower back pain. The worst pain I have ever felt. It’s excruciating and I know its not normal.

I have tried searching the internet countless times to find exercises or stretches that will help this specific problem but have had no luck finding anyone with this problem or anything to help.

Can someone tell me what is causing this pain and lead me to the sources that will help me get better?

Thanks!

It might have something to do with having scoliosis. You might want to lay off the gym or at least reduce your workout time .Your condition of scoliosis is an abnormal curvature of the spine. It would make sense to me and I’m not a doctor, that you would be more susceptible to pain than someone without scoliosis. Maybe it is the type of exercise your doing. Try speaking with your doctor to find out why. You might have to go for tests.. If it is that excruciating, I wouldn’t be putting the doctor off. Go to the doctor and save yourself some pain.
