I have severe sciatic nerve pain from hurniated disc. Does botox injections work? is there help?
I injured my lower disc in my back and over the years it went from a bulging disc to a herniated disc. Since the day I felt that pop I seem to have chronic nerve pain that goes from the lower back down my leg and in to my foot. it seems to hurt constantly and if I have to do anything besides laying in bed it is much worse to the point that after a few days of work I am bed ridden again. I’ve been to the doctors, surgeons, neurologists and the only thing they offer is pain meds which give me some relief but not enough to have a normal, mildly even, active day. I also found using the Dr Ho Tens machine gives me some relief but not enough to function. Does anyone have any suggestions and has anyone had botox injections for such pain?
Botox was suggested by a specialist to block nerve pain somehow. it isn’t covered by OHIP and I’m reluctant to pay for something I’m unsure of. I have been to surgeons and been denied so I have to find an alternative way to deal with this pain. I currently take strong pain meds which give some relief but still have a great deal of pain at all times and especially when standing and even sitting. I also will wake through he night constantly and have to change positions and prop pillows. thanks for suggestions.

I have had the same condition and have never heard of a botox injection into the disc. Now a common treatment is to
have cortisone injections, is that what you mean? Steroid injections work quite well, at a certain stage of this, but from what you describe, you have way too much sciatic nerve damage for them to help you.
I find it alarming that you have sciatic pain all the way to your foot and no one has suggested surgery to you. Soon, if not already you may have sciatic nerve damage and you will have little to no lucky with it healing. Like I said, I had the exact same condition and was flat on my back for 3 entire months at the end before surgery. I now have permanent nerve damage in my right leg and it is extremely painful and debilitating.
November 23rd, 2009 at 9:37 pmI had the surgery 2 years ago and although I suffer from the nerve damage my back is great!! I had my surgery done my a neurosurgeon and when I woke up in the recovery room,
I knew that I felt better that quick.
If you don’t choose to have surgery, then you must look out for a couple of symptoms and if you have them rush to the ER. If you have incontinence of any kind or loose control of your bowels, you much rush to the ER.

i’ve never heard of botox helping something like this.. go to the store and they have patches that stick to your skin that heat up they are gods gift to the world lol stick the patch on the part of your back that gives you the most trouble.. also buy yourself a heating pad and sleep with it on medium heat at night.. ask your doctor if you can take ib prophen for the pain and any inflimation that might be in your back.. but make sure you talk to your doctor first because if your taking pain meds it might be to dangerous to take anything else with it.. good luck

Your pain is from the herniated disk. You need to get the disk removed. Go see a neuro-surgeon. If he will not operate on you, I would say you got some other health problem that makes surgery a risk. (Do you weight 300 pounds?) If that is the case, get that problem fixed and you may get the surgery you need.
