Why do baseball players fake Injuries so much?

They may have a sore finger, sore ankle, groin, maybe feeling abut of pain here or there and then they are on 15 day disabled list or longer? do you think its because of laziness or whats up? Iv played baseball for 16 yrs and I always remeber the sport as being a Walk it off sport…

some injuries you cant walk off..but a sore foot or a sore finger? come on!

Complete babies, Mickey Mantle played all of his seasons with a torn up knee and osteomylatis, and did he complain, no, when major league ball players have as simple as a blister on there finger they’ll complain like there dying, I agree that people would kill to play in the big leagues and they’ll cry about a sore arm or finger just because they’ll lose millions even though they already make enough to live will off.

sometimes the injury could be more than what is specified. also coaches and organizations dont want their talent to be possibly hurt even more.

It’s funny how 40-years ago a guy would get criticized for not playing every game as being "weak" or "gutless". Even moderate injuries weren’t an excuse not to play. But the difference today? Money! Most of these guys don’t want to risk even a slight injury because playing hurt could reduce their numbers, weaken their bargaining power and cost them MILLIONS on a new contract. I don’t like it, but it’s the way of the world now. And I have to quit typing now because one of my fingers is tired.

I know! Do you know how many people would kill to be in the MLB. And they go out there not wanting to play! UGH!

they want to be careful that something sore or something else doesn’t turn into something worse

I can’t think of any blatant examples of this; maybe you’re thinking of the antics soccer players go through, rolling around in agony, getting carried off the field and recovering seconds later – all to get a penalty called.

Sore finger? Could a pitcher control his stuff with one?

    They don’t fake injuries.

Manny tried that last year and started getting hit with huge fines from the Red Sox orginazation.

Usually if they have a sore finger or something it’ll be day-to-day. However, whenever a player feels slight pain he’s going to get examined. Managers aren’t taking risks. They may find something that’s in the wrong place or that’s not healed, and managers are going to add them to the 15 Day DL because if they play, there’s a chance that injury could become more stressful. In result, they just put "sore finger" or something instead of going into great detail and medical terms.

I agree on some levels. Bedard seems like he is always on the DL list. Yes i understand nobody wants to risk getting hurt or making a pain worst, but sometimes they have to man up and just deal with it. Last year i remember our catcher missed a game or two because he had a hang nail. really? pathetic…
