I’m on some hard pain killers from my surgery and they are making me sick?

i need to take these pain killers for my surgery but they are making me sick, i have thrown up, got really bad head aches and slow a slight fever. I also get a little dizzy. Should i talk to my doctor or is that normal? After being on the bill for almost a week they seem to not be helping that much..is that a bad thing?

it’s possible that you have an infection and that could be causing the nausea and vomiting. As a woman you’re more prone to vomit as a side reaction to many things. I would reccommend going to your dr immediately and discussing your problem. It may or may not be the pain killers. He can determine that. Go immediately.

If the pain killer is strong enough it will make you have nausea, and a head ache, the fever is probably your face just being warm and flush from the pill. They make my cheeks feel warm also. If you call the doctor they can give you something called phenegran, it helps with the nausea and head ache. They can also give you something not so strong. You could really have a fever so look in to it either way.

You need to call your doctor. Fever is a sign of infection. It could be serious. I ran a fever after my foot surgery and had headaches and I had an infection in the surgery sight. They had to put me on antibiotics and I had to keep going to the doctor’s office to be monitored. Nausea can be a side effect of the pain medicine. You should talk to the doctor about either changing the medication or ask for suggestions to help prevent nausea. I hope you feel better soon!

Call your doctor right away. You need to have the pain med (or at least the dosage of it) changed. This is not normal and you deserve to have proper pain management without those symptoms. Good luck!

Nausea is fairly common with strong painkillers, but fever is not. Call your doctor right away. Your dose with probably be lowered or the drug changed. Also your incision will probably be checked for signs of infection, and the dressing changed by an RN.

The hard pain killers all have nausea, itching, light headedness, and sleepiness as side effects. Some of the other strong pain killers may cause less side effects. Pain medicines don’t effect everyone the same way and you may be one of the people who get more side effects rather than relief. Depending on your type of surgery, other types of pain medicine may be a better choice for you.

I agree with others that a fever is not expected and you should tell your doctor.
