over-arched back?! and hunched?! help?

i sometimes get lower back pain, and i think its because i have a overarched back. sometimes i try to stand up straighter cause i also hunch but i just overarch my back more and it hurts so i have to stay hunched, and also when im hunched my back is still overarched.

am i overarched? or is it fine and its just back pain
also is there anything i can do to stop hunching and overarching?
like exercises or something?

    Hi, my wife had lower back pain and that overarched back, as in your second picture. As you say, trying to ‘stand up straight’ is no good, as it replaces one painful habit with another. My wife eventually learnt not to do the arching habit by taking lessons in The Alexander Technique. It teaches you to identify your habits of ‘holding’ (posture), then how to not do the habitual tightening.

    Unfortunately you need a few lessons to be effective- I think 6 is considered the minimum.However, once you’ve learnt the technique, you can apply it for the rest of your life to avoid back pain, so it may be a good investment.

    You can do one of the main techniques called semi-supine yourself. Lie on the floor with your head on 2-3 paperbacks as in the diagram here:

    As you lay there, think about your neck being free, so your head goes up away from your body and slightly forward. Think about your back being long and wide, and your knees going forward and away from your body.

    As your back releases you should be able to notice that it starts to make contact with the floor; don’t try and force it down.

    Recent research showed that people with lower back pain who were given lessons reduced their average days of back pain from 21 to 3 per month.

    You should definitely see a chiropractor. You may have scoliosis, or rib humping. It could also just be your muscles are too tight because you are out of alignment and that’s why it hurts to stand straight. If you’ve had an accident of any sort, this could cause this type of problem as well. A chiropractor could easily tell what the problem is and have you fixed in no time.

    and I would only go to a chiropractor if a real doctor refers me to one,,, the bad ones can hurt you,,, I’m disabled because of one. They don’t fix anything quick and easy,,, they’re like personal injury attorneys
