Why do I have to wait a week for gallbladder removal in this much pain? What to expect after surgery?

I had a HIDA scan yesterday and I had a terrible gall bladder attack during the test. I have NO idea what to expect so I thought it was just a nasty side effect from the injection..come to find out a good friend of mine says she just had the test and had NO pain at all and her number was in the 50s. The dr. called this morning and said mine was a 7 and it needed to come out! Im in excruciating pain and cannot eat why do i have to wait so long (a week) for the removal? Being so low i thought i would get in within 3 days at the most! What do i expect after surgery? Im really nervous..I had a baby 7 months ago and need to know what to expect as far as my limitations in caring for him and returning back to work..any serious responses will be greatly appreciated! Thanks

while you wait for the surgery, try to arrange for a friend or relative to come and help you out with the baby:i had gallbladder surgery a couple years ago:the hospital let me go home the next morning.
you will be in pain, for a few days for sure.
bending down hurts, picking up heavy stuff hurts.well:the Dr has to cut some abdominal muscles.
you wont be working for 2-3weeks.
your digestion may be quite upset after removing the gallbladder:ask the Dr,what is OK to eat?

Well,it depends on if th Dr. does laser,or the regular surgery. First off,you will be very tender where the scar area is(But nothing comparing to the pain you are having right now!) You will not be allowed to lift anything over 10 pounds,so you will be needing some help with child care.

You are having to wait, because there are not any available rooms & your surgeon is not available until then. But,if you start getting to look yellow(jaundice ) get to the hospital immiately! You are just steps away from death,if it gets to that point!
Your Dr. can prescribe something for the pain. If it gets to the point you can’t take it,call him back up & get the pain killer from him& ask him for an appt. not so far away.

I had the surgery about 15 years ago& I stopped smoking while I was in the hospital,& haven’t smoked since. So,not only did I feel much better after the surgery,I benefited by being able to quit smoking as well.

You will feel much better afterwards.(The snsition will hurt somewhat, but not like the pain you have now!)

Good Luck! Hope this has helped!

I cant answer why they are making you wait a week, there are 2 methods they use for removing the gallbladder, one is with 3 small incisions and the other has a large incision which takes longer to heal. after the surgery, you are going to be on weight restrictions. You will need to have someone help with taking care of your baby for at least a few weeks, because your baby weighs more than the weight restrictions allow. As far as the returning to work, you should ask your doctor about when they expect to release you to go back to work. After the surgery, your going to need to try to cut down on fatty foods and really you should start eating candied ginger(aids in digestion) especially after the surgery.

Also you might want to get a second opinion, to be sure that the first doctor gave you the correct diagnosis.
