My ideal state of being is high- Is this bad?

I have really bad chronic knee pain, and all the medication doctors gave me gave me a stomach ulcer- i constantly feel nauseated- and I have really terrible digestive organs and i puke if something smells strong and smells bad.

I came across pot as a college student naturally would and I feel in love with the plant. Seriously, love it. No nausea, no knee pain, just a content state of being. Because the the knee pain relief I’ve lost 30 lbs since I can now walk without intense pain so i’ve been getting more exercise… I smoke a lot. and when I mean by a lot I mean- I’m probably only sober 3-5 hours a day. (not including sleep time). I go to class a little bit high- where i can act like I always do, I’m just a little bit… more interested and happy about sociology and chemistry than I should be. I still get good grades, I have lots of friends- some of them I’ve never spoken to sober- and I generally just smoke a lot.

I can’t decide whether or not this is bad. I’m very obviously Dependant upon it (I mean, I went all last week without smoking with no problem- i was living with my parents that week) But, I’m wondering if this is a truly bad thing? Or should i just smoke to my heart’s content ?

    Dr. Campbell Says:

Marijuana really is a psychological crutch for you at this point. From your accord, it sounds more like you have serious issues with addiction than it does you having serious issues with pain.

It reminds me of a study I did with lab rats back in my undergrad. We raised three generations of lab rats and gave them an extensive "lair" of tunnels and wheels and tubes and what have you. After they became accustomed to their surroundings we released into their habitat a small python. We then released marijuana smoke into the enclosure and all the rats got high and the snake didn’t.

I guess what I am trying to say is that you are either a snake or a rat. If you get high you are like the rat, it may feel good running on your wheel … but that snake is going to **** you up.

    I hope this helps

It will hurt you in the long run but if you feel better SMOKE. Its not addicting as long as you don’t move on to other drugs just stick with pot also a lot of places drug test. Getting a really good job may be hard but a lot of people smoke so why not

It’s not the pot that’s bad it’s whether the person using it can handle it. I resent it when people call you a looser. I’ve been smokin for 25 years! I own a house and two cars. I work hard and haven’t called out sick from work in 2 years and usually only average 1 call out per year. I don’t drink so pot keeps me sane.I say smoke all you want as long as it’s not negatively impacting your life.Enjoy!

Girl, I’ve heard all the excuses. The time you spend high interferes with normal psychosocial development and makes you stoopid. Now that is a choice you have to make. I believe we were put here for a finite number of years and that is to do something great. If you had a year or two sobriety, you would find your remarks unacceptable. Not to mention any college degree that ends in obtaining a license such as to teach, health care etc would not be obtainable with an arrestrecordsd. You might bounce yor ideas off some folks in alanon or aa. God bless. Been there, done that, now regret the "wasted years".

Smoking anything is not good for you. You should try the tea and baked goods. The tea has a wonderful full body high and not so much the heady high. Some of my friends make it into butter and use it in all of their cooking.
Pot is a plant, it comes from the ground, if "god" didn’t want it it wouldn’t be around!
Don’t ever feel guilty about natural and alternative medications!

Because of your medical condition, this seems a complex one.

personally i never smoke. but i have done in the past. A lot at a certain time of my life. And while benefiting in someways i’ve also suffered for it too.

HOWEVER… from personal experience AND from research i’ve done it is possible to offset the negative effects of pot smoking to a degree IF you find it necessary for the time being.

    My advice is:
    Search for a non-drug solution.
BUT if you do use it:
    1) Only use as much as necessary to ease your pain and nausea. "Sow an act, reap a habit. Sow a habit, reap a character."

    2) Vigorous exercise regularly through the week will give your body more opportunity to stay healthy, feel good without the drug and reduce the later depressive effects of long term usage.
(one therapist whose work i read about believes that the only good recovery from long term drug ab-use has involved muscular exercise and flowing exercise along side normal psychological processes.

    3) Use your concentration or it can fade. You don’t want to be a deadbeat in 3-4 years do you?

Some people have hereditary vulnerabilities to the drug and occasionally end up triggering psychological illness. Others i have seen seem to suffer few ill effects on their ability to focus.

Good luck. Its a bugga of a thing to be tied to. If you use it then balance it out with some other behavior. exercise etc.

Oh yeah. the root problem is the pain yeah?
Some people have AMAZING results through hypnotherapy. In fact one of the primary developers of modern techniques in hypnotherapy had a medical issue associated with chronic pain and used self hypnosis techniques to overcome the symptom. This is probably why he became so skilled in the field. Milton Erikson was his name. I know some local Hypnotherapists. Seems like its a tough job but i think these people stay at it because sometimes their clients EXPERIENCE A MIRACULOUS HEALING.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with it and you shouldn’t let people who have never walked in your shoes tell you what is right and wrong for you.

As long as you aren’t hurting anyone, it’s no one’s business.
Don’t drive when you’re high or otherwise impaired, don’t operate heavy machinery, don’t babysit small children, etc.

Chronic pain literally drives some people insane or to suicide.
Not being able to eat can cause problems and excessive vomitting is very unhealthy.

I would take the suggestion of others who said to use it in other ways than smoking because smoking, even just pot , can lead to cancer.
It isn’t laced with all the nasty things cigarettes are but it’s still carcinogenic to smoke it.

The other thing you have to worry about, is the legal aspect. I don’t know what the laws are for buying and using/possessing it, but I would look into those and make sure that’s something you’re prepared to deal with.

I think it should be legal. It has medicinal uses, and doesn’t impair you as bad as alcohol, or make you angry/violent like alcohol does in some people. Also alcohol and tobacco have no medicinal uses yet they’re legal.
