Anyone know what causes gas/flatulence with severe lower back pain?

I suffer with gas/flatulence, followed by severe, debillitating lower back pain that lasts for several days. Nothing seems to help it. I’ve tried over-the-counter remedies such as GAS-X or Beano, and they don’t help. These attacks usually occur after I eat peanuts, peanut products, or beans. The lower back pain is so severe I can’t go to work, I can’t exercise, I usually stay in bed with a heat pad. I was once told I have diverticulosis. I need help with this pain. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

Eep, you may have a severe food allergy too.

I am lactose intolerant and I get that way sometimes if I ingest too much dairy, with or without lactaid.

You mean diverticulitis? It is highly possible. Does condition also happen after you eat raw veggies or small seeds?

Are your bowels regular or really out of the ordinary?

I’d suggest you contact your doctor so you can get a referral to see a Gastroenterologist. If a referral is not necessary you should contact one immediately.

Diverticulitis is quite severe, especially when it’s ulcerative.

Until you can see a doctor limit your diet greatly. Stick to water only as a fluid. Eat very bland foods, like broths (any flavor), mashed potatoes, white toast (no whole grains or anything with seeds or grains). It should help reduce the aggravation in your intestinal track.

Good luck to you, pleas see the doc!

Hi, Diverticulosis I understand can be extremely painful, both in the lower back and abdomen, usually a high fibre diet is recommended 20-35 grams a day. Nuts and popcorn should be avoided along with sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds, as these can irritatate the diverticula. Perhaps going on to a liquid diet for a few days might help your situation, I do hope so.
