Has anyone had acupuncture for lower spinal pain or spine problems in general?
I have a pinching pain along the lower spine and my sacroiliac joint (I won’t go into the specifics of why I have this problem). It is something I have been living with for over two years now. I go to the chiropractor regularly which has led to some improvement and temporary relief. I was wondering if anyone has had acupuncture to treat spinal pain. Any comments regarding acupuncture treatment for back pain in general are welcome too. Preferably, I would like feedback from people who have actually had treatment before.

Acupuncture can be quite useful for lower spine pain. One branch of the medicine comes from the martial arts, where warriors fought against each other to stay at the top of their game, causing injuries but had to recover quickly in order to be able to fight enemies. They developed all kinds of liniments, hit medicines, bone setting plasters that can go under a soft cast, and acupuncture techniques for orthopedic pain. They also developed tuina techniques, the physical therapy of Chinese medicine, and qi gong exercises which will enhance your recovery and prevent new damage. Not all acupuncturists study martial arts or herbal medicine however, so you will want to ask before you make an appointment. One caveat, in some states doctors and chiropractors are allowed to call themselves acupuncturists with only a few hundred hours of video courses instead of the 4000 or so hours someone with a Chinese medicine degree has, and very little is overlapping. So also make sure you have a real licensed acupuncturist, who has a serious martial arts and herbal training.
