Okay I am kinda young. I am 13. I have had a horrible lower back pain for 2 years. I did a flip and landed completely on my back 2 years ago. I was able to stand the pain for a year and in the last year its escaladed to the point where I can not stand it. I have had a cat scan, x ray, and bone scan on my back doctors say i have a little inflamation in my lower vertabra but nothing they can fix surgicaly. They sent me to physical therapy for 5 months..didnt work it continued to get worse. They put me in a brace didn’t work got EVEN WORSE!!! I do not know what to do they say nothing is there. But they also say the pain and whats "not there" does not add up. I also have scoliiosis its 23 degrees. it has to be 25 degrees before they do anything. so its not that bad. they also say scoliosis can not cause the pain I am having. Recently (in 3 weeks) i have had pain all up my spine. lower part of my back and on both sides of my back torwards my side its all sharp pain. and on my spine most of the time it feels super tight and sharp pains. What do I do? What is causing this? Plz help!

I was doing squats and let the bar fall pretty low on my back and it caused some pain my in my shoulders and back. It affected the right side more. I took 2 days off from lifting and took ibuprofen. Now I’ve noticed if I make the motion one would make for the cable row machine one side of my back will pull back and up. It’s hard to explain. Also I notice that if I try to pull my shoulders back my right side will go further back. I haven’t noticed a loss in strength but it concerns me that it will pull back and up like it does, at the end of the row motion. Is it possible that this is a really pulled muscle that just needs to heal? Or did I pull a ligament or something that won’t heal. Any help would be greatly appreciated in calming my anxiety. Thank You.

I’ve searched and searched my symptoms but I get alot of answers regarding pregnancy which I’m not. I’m 35, have two children and my husband has had a vasectomy.
I have had some dull/ache cramps in my lower abdomen and lower back (sometimes radiating to my thighs) on and off for a few months. I went to my dr. about 2 months ago for this and she did an internal exam and pap. She said everything looked normal including the urine sample. I had gone to my ob about a year prior to that and had an u/s done and exam and was told everything was normal.
A couple months ago this all happened about 10 days prior to my period so I didn’t think it was related. After a while it went away and I was okay for a month or so and now I am feeling the same way again. Crampy, back pain and I am not due for my period for 12 days or so.
I am pretty stressed about something unrelated and wonder if stress could actually cause cramps and low back pain?? It doesn’t sound very possible to me. The last time this happened I was pretty stressed too…just don’t know if there’s a relation or if it’s something totally unrelated.
Any ideas?

I have had persistent lower right quadrant pain over the past three months. When I originally went to the doctor they of course thought appendix. They sent me to the ER and they did a CT w/o contrast and ruled out my appendix. The doctors said it wasn’t life threatening, so take it easy for a few days and come back if the pain persisted. The pain continued, but I waited about a month until I went back to the doctor. Doing a rigorous abdominal exercise set irritated it terribly. When I went back the doctor ordered an ultrasound to rule out an issue with my gallbladder. Again nothing came from the test. The doc also ordered every blood test he could conceive, it all came back clean. He then sent me to a GI, who ordered a small bowel and GI follow through. He also did a colonoscopy. Both test came back clean. The GI now wants to send me to a general surgeon for possible exploratory surgery to find what he believes is an abdominal wall hernia.

Anyone have any clues as to what this could be, or see anything in what I told you that they could have missed?

I am a 22 year old male, with no pertinent prior conditions to speak of.

It hurts when I run, but it hurts more if I take longer strides while running or walking. The pain comes from the impact, and the stride backwards, not the pulling on my leg forward.
It hurts when I do a lot of crunches or sit-ups. Not just one or two, typically it takes 50 or more.
Riding my motorcycle, anytime I hit a bump it hurts.
If I eat a lot, a full stomach aggravates it sometimes.
Standing for extended periods or time, especially in the hot shower, drives it crazy.

The pain is nauseating, but has never actually made me sick. No vomiting, and no blood from anywhere. when it is bad I dont eat because I have no appetite. It is also worth noting that I stopped exercising for a month thinking it may be a pulled muscle, but the pain never subsided, or even lessened. Also, I had no lumps in my abdominal muscles that can be felt under normal circumstances. The area is tender to the touch and pushing on other areas of my abdomen causes the painful area to hurt.

As I said any diagnosis ideas would be outstanding. If I need surgery I need surgery.

I was standing in line for about three hours today, but I began to have aches in my lower back about halfway in. I tried bending over, thinking I was tired or needed a stretch, and I felt a sharp pain in the right part of my lower back, a little above the hip. I remembered having a similar kind of ache a few days ago when I was walking around and shopping with a friend.

I’ve been laying on my stomach a lot within the past few weeks, propping myself up on my elbows when I need to use my laptop or do homework – is this the reason why my back hurts sometimes, or is it more likely to be because I haven’t gotten exercise lately (I’ve never been very fit, but I eat healthy and am slightly underweight)? Is it serious enough to mention to my doctor the next time I visit?

I am a 15 year old female and play club soccer and swim. Around 3 and a half weeks ago during a soccer scrimmage I stretched my left leg out too far and felt immediate back pain. However, for the next week practices were relatively easy, so the back problem wasn’t noticeable. But recently we have been having harder practices, including 2 practices or games a day etc. The pain was at a pinpoint location in the left side of my lower spine, and would hurt whenever I kicked my leg or turned my spine and stuff like that. After meeting with a physical therapist twice, she diagnosed the problem as psoas strain, which stinks because the main function of that muscle apparently is supporting the hip for kicking (soccer). So basically now it’s been a week since I last saw the therapist, but the pain is not improving at all, and I haven’t really gained any strength in the exercises like I was supposed to. And recently I have developed a new symptom. When I stand for more than 30 minuets or so it feels like my upper back is numb, almost like it fell asleep. I also have a slight throbbing feeling under my left shoulder blade. Even though we got the diagnosis as a psoas strain my family and I aren’t exactly sure what to do. We just need help deciding what to do as far as possibly visiting an orthopedic doctor or something else. I would love to hear your thoughts and advice! Thank you so much for your help!

Okay – I sit all day at a computer being in IT and over the past 2 years I’ve started to realize that my lower back is extremely tight. From doing some research on the issue it seems that my hip flexors are very tight causing weak glutes, which are pulling down on my lower back due to having a weak lower abdomen.

Now that I’m almost positive as to what the pain is from I’m curious as to what stretches and strengthening exercises I should be doing to get better. I’m also concerned with how many reps and the amount of times per week I should be doing them. I want to get myself on a routine schedule so that I can get better. From someone’s experience how long would it take to start seeing results?

Also since I think I found why I’m hurting I’d also like to hear your recommendations on how to stop it from happening again after its healed. I have to sit for the majority of the day due to my job. Any suggestions?

although the pain is a constant in my appendix and right side of my lower back, it seems to be episodic, in that it it builds up until the pain is so bad all I can do is force myself to sleep because absolutely nothing (meds) helps the pain. My doctor said he won’t approve surgery to remove the appendix because of scarring. That is because I am a very brittle diabetic, not that I understand the whole issue of scarring? I suffer from clinical depression and this problem really reaps havoc w/ the depression. I really need a positive good answer. Maybe if someone out there could just explain the scarring factor to me, so I can understand the possible dangers?

So.. I’ve been browsing the web lately trying to find out what’s been agitating my calf muscles since freshman year in high school (5-6 years ago). I’ve came upon the term, "intermittent claudication." Although the signs are VERY similar, I don’t believe my diagnosis is correct. You can Google it yourself, but basically, it’s a condition that can cause pain (usually in the calves) simply by walking, due to poor circulation of blood in the arteries in the legs. I have read that it occurs mainly in those of ages 40-50+ years. Considering I’m soon to turn 20, nowhere near 40-50, I figured intermittent claudication couldn’t be affecting me. I might be an exception though.

The fact that I’m ‘technically’ overweight might matter (which is why I’ve been going to the gym lately), but I’m perfectly capable of jogging a good 30 minutes (endurance wise), if it weren’t for the fact that my calves practically lock up full of pain within the first 5-10. It started in my freshman PE class, having to run a mile within 12 minutes. In those days, I was practically a toothpick, and still had a difficult time finishing. Lately, on an elliptical, I can last 15-20 minutes before my calves lock up (averaging 8-8.5 minutes per mile, according to the digital screen), and only last 5-10 minutes on a track. Walking isn’t too much of a problem. I walk at least 1.5 miles around campus each, going from class to class, with no problems at all. I could literally walk forever on a flat surface or downhill, but I do start to feel a light to moderate burning sensation walking up any noticeable incline.

The pain always starts out mild and builds its way up to severe, depending on how long I decide to continue. I like to believe that I have a moderately high tolerance to pain, but I’ve had to totally stop jogging and sit down right then and there because it hurt so much. My steps usually start out at 1+ feet, and work their way down to low inches (where I can hardly walk).

If, by chance, I do have intermittent claudication, the following is my reasoning of why I might:
I believe it’s because of the Jump Rope For Heart organization, back from elementary school (I’m not blaming anyone). Obviously, jumping rope definitely works the calves, and back then I would jump the whole hour or so we were allotted per day, for a week of each year. Now that I look at my calves, considering I’ve never been on a sports team or track, I’d say they’re very-well defined and irregularly muscular (and they have been for a long time). Without flexing them, I can barely pinch skin with a clothespin, and when I do flex, I can’t pinch anything at all. With all that dense mass, I figure arteries might be receiving too much pressure, therefore leading to abnormal blood circulation. Good reasoning, or no?

Overall, I would like to know the exact condition which might be affecting me. Of course, I’d like a professional opinion, but can’t afford medical insurance at this time in order to visit a doctor of some sort. I had no luck finding a similar enough condition worth noting, so I’m hoping people on here might already have an answer. Thanks in advance!

so first thing’s first: i’m kind of a hypochondriac. i’m a 16 year old girl and have had lower back pain for like 2 years now, going on 3 years. I don’t have it while i’m running, walking, or performing most day-to-day activities. However, the moment I lie down in bed (like flat on my back) it hurts like hell for like 1 minute as I guess I “adjust” to the position, then I’m fine. In the morning I’ll wake up and it’s a little sore, but not in like a super painful way. If I bend down and pick something up, my back’ll hurt, and if I arch it backwards, it hurts too. It’s mostly my lower back, but when I lie down it sometimes radiates to my upper back too. If I press on my back, it doesn’t hurt; it’s more like a bending/arching-induced pain. The reason I mentioned that I’m kinda a hypochondriac is that I get paranoid, like WHAT IF IT’S A TUMOR or something like that. I have no other symptoms other than this long chronic back pain. Can someone please help me figure out what it could be? I have pretty bad posture and carry a heavy backpack on my back at school, but my sister who is just like me doesn’t have pain, and none of my friends do either and like we all carry backpacks of roughly the same weight. What could be causing back pain that hurts when I bend/arch that’s lasted for years (note: it gets worse when im on my period…) and hasn’t gotten drastically worse but hasn’t improved at all? I can’t lie on my stomach and arch my back backwards because it hurts. PLEASE HELP!!

I am in my late 20′s and have been suffering from anxiety attacks. But these "new" anxiety attacks are much different than anxiety attacks I had in my early 20′s and teens. I have frequent episodes of shortness of breath at random, and pain in my chest / back almost daily now. The reason I am concerned is because:
1. I was an overweight child / teenager
2. I suffered from anorexia for a few years around age 20 which took me down to 100lbs (I’m 5’5).
3. Following my recovery from anorexia I abused cocaine and crack cocaine in extreme amounts
4. After I quit doing drugs, I took diet pills for a long time. Phentermine and one other pill they added after a few months to make it a "combo" of 2 diet pills.
5. During the time I started taking the diet pills, I began to binge drink. I eventually quit the diet pills but continued to binge drink for 6 or 7 years (up until a few months ago). I binge drank to the point of blacking out an average of 4 times a week, give or take. I quit drinking because my anxiety was becoming so extreme with the hangovers that I could not socialize or go out in public, and sometimes my head would begin to shake for no reason.
6. I have smoked on and off since age 12. Most heavily in my mid teens and early 20′s, about a pack – pack and a half a day.I quit for good 6 months ago because I was having trouble breathing and I noticed my lower legs would swell, and that didn’t happen until I started smoking again that particular time.

I no longer drink other than a drink or two every few weeks, and no longer smoke and haven’t abused drugs in at least 5 years. But I get weak / dizzy / breathless spells. One thing I tried to express to my doctor was that my anxiety attacks used to cause racing heart rate, but now it’s chest pains / shortness of breath that cause my anxiety attacks, if that makes sense. I have these "episodes" that are not always accompanied by racing heart, and I try to keep my anxiety at bay when I’m not feeling well.

The pain in my chest is in the center, and squeezes out to the sides, and the pain in my back is as if someone were standing behind me, poking me with a finger (very, very sore though). I also have pain in my left shoulder and inside of my left arm. Sometimes I feel this discomfort up the left side of my neck / jaw. Not extreme, but discomfort none the less.

Any advice is helpful, I have not disclosed my complete history to my doctor, because my insurance would most likely not have covered me at all. Sad country we live in about that. I am just tired of hearing that it’s digestion / anxiety. My anxiety has never manifested like this before. I get heart palpitations so bad now that they sometimes make me feel like I’m going to vomit or pass out. I’ve been to urgent care, but my episode had passed by then, and my ekg was normal. I know an older woman that suffered anxiety attacks and always had normal ekg’s, but ended up with a pacemaker once they eventually "caught" the problem. Whats anyone’s thoughts?

For the record, I have a pretty healthy lifestyle now. Comical as it seems, I always ate pretty healthy and got exercise, lol.
